Who Are
We?

Word For Word is a student-based literary journal with a focus on encouraging youth voices and building a dynamic community. WFW serves as a creative platform for young people to publish poetry, short stories, creative nonfiction, flash fiction, and more! We strive to engage in collaborative discussions about topics and causes we’re passionate about, examining every corner of our society through a creative lens.  WFW delights in the voices of students aged 12-18!

Lily Messer

Lily Messer is a junior in high school from Los Angeles. She is "stoked" to be an editor for Word for Word and is excited to encourage other young people to write. Besides reading, she spends her free time trying to cook, hanging out with friends, and watching movies - especially La La Land.

Sydney Davis

Sydney Davis is a junior at Carbondale Community High School in Southern Illinois. She primarily writes short stories and flash fiction. Outside of her writing endeavors, Sydney is an active member of her Future Business Leaders of America and plays violin. She is the oldest of four siblings and loves being around her family. Sydney has attended the Iowa Young Writers' Studio and Writopia Lab Advanced Writing Seminar NYC, and looks forward to expanding her writing career with the Word For Word team.

Evie Lee

Evie Lee (she/they) is a junior in high school from the Lower East Side of New York City and currently attends Solebury School in New Hope, PA. She enjoys sewing, crocheting, photography, making jewelry, playing guitar, and of course, writing. Evie has been previously published/recognized by the Scholastic Awards and the Links Inc. Young Masters Competition (Delaware Valley Chapter). In her free time, she loves to learn new art forms and create lengthy Spotify playlists.

Caroline Reznik

Caroline Reznik, a current junior, is an avid reader and loves nothing more than curling up with a good book in her home in Barrington, RI. Among her favorite authors are Jane Austen, Rick Riordan, JRR Tolkien, and Agatha Christie. Caroline also loves writing, with stories published in the WriteRI short story anthology multiple times, and will hopefully find more homes for her poetry and short stories in the future.

Kat Shaw

Kat Shaw is from a tiny town in the state of Vermont. She is a rising senior at Fair Haven Union High School where she writes and edits for her school newspaper, The Occasional Slater. Her works, which include themes of mortality and identity, were recently shared at the Smith Pre-College Creativing Writing Program. She looks forward to continuing writing (and reading) in the future.

Avery Cannon

Avery Cannon is a high school junior who loves to read and write. When not doing so, Cannon can be found pursuing her passions for dancing, running, learning new things, and cooking or baking on occasion. She hopes that through Word For Word, young writers are able to find their voice and share their love for writing with the world.

Faith Barrass

Faith Barrass is currently a high school junior in Barrington, Rhode Island, and is the social media manager for Word For Word. Her passions include making music, running, and crochet, as well as spending time with friends and family. Reading is one of her favorite pastimes and her favorite book genre is mystery! She hopes to help Word For Word reach many aspiring writers through social media.
